In May of 2013 my cousin Ed Weil and I went to Istanbul on a photo tour led by Steve Outram (who led my trip to Crete). I particularly enjoyed the Fener and Balat districts, where we encountered other foreigners only twice in six hours of shooting.

There were two more kittens off to the left, but they weren't easy to see.

Anyone home?

Anyone home?

This sort of summarizes Balat for me. Decaying building, probably no one home, but nice, fresh, bread waiting for them.

It was very hard to do a good job because I wasn't allowed to go to the center. That's only for people who are praying.

I was stuck in a seat on the ferry to Prince's Island for well over an hour. The only interesting thing I saw was this psychedelic headscarf.

Note the Galata Tower in the background. We went up it for some shots but it was pretty hazy

This the station that was the original terminus of the Orient Express, and was well worth a visit.

At the end of the last day our local guide / travel agent, Elif Efe, took me to this local mosque, near the hotel. Definitely local, and fun for me.
